Keep Your Pieces Looking Their Best
Your Kairo & Alora pieces are built to handle real life, but a little care goes a long way in keeping them looking sharp. Here's how to get the most out of your waterproof, hypoallergenic jewellery.

- Swim-friendly - Pool and beach approved
- Gym-ready - Sweat won't hurt them

Weekly Deep Clean
What You'll Need
- Warm soapy water (gentle dish soap works perfectly)
- Soft-bristled toothbrush or cloth
- Clean, dry towel
How To Do It
- Soak your pieces in warm soapy water for 2-3 minutes
- Gently scrub with a soft brush to remove any buildup
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water
- Pat dry with a soft towel
What to Avoid
Don't Use
- Harsh chemicals or bleach
- Abrasive cleaners or scrubbers
- Ultrasonic cleaners (unnecessary for our materials)
When to Remove
While our pieces are durable, consider removing them when:
- Using harsh cleaning products or chemicals
- Working with heavy machinery
- Doing activities where snagging could occur
Storage Tips
- Store pieces separately to prevent scratching
- Keep in a dry place (though moisture won't damage them)
- Use the pouch or box your jewellery came in
Caring for Charm Jewellery
Understanding Jump Rings:
All Kairo & Alora jewellery uses unwelded stainless steel jump rings - this is intentional for both functionality and safety.
Why unwelded?
- Allows charms to be added, removed, or customized
- Provides a safe breakpoint - if your jewellery catches on something, the jump ring can open to prevent injury rather than causing harm
- Stainless steel is extremely strong (high-tensile), so an unwelded design is a critical safety feature
Check Jump Rings Regularly:
Because jump rings are designed to be openable, they can separate if pulled or stretched.
How to check:
- Gently inspect jump rings periodically for any gaps or openings
- If a jump ring has opened slightly, you can carefully close it with jewellery pliers
- This is normal maintenance for charm jewellery, not a defect
Prevent Snagging:
Charm jewellery can catch on clothing, hair, or bags during daily wear.
To prevent damage:
- Put on charm bracelets and necklaces AFTER getting dressed
- Be mindful when putting on/removing jackets, sweaters, or bags
- Avoid wearing charm jewellery during activities where it might catch (e.g., moving furniture, gardening, contact sports)
- If a charm catches on something, gently unhook it rather than pulling
Want Extra Security?
We offer welded sterling silver or gold-filled jump rings as an upgrade for charm jewellery ($5 per charm). Welded jump rings provide additional security to prevent charms from accidentally coming off, while the softer metals maintain a safe breakpoint.
What's Normal vs. What's Not:
✅ Normal: Jump rings opening slightly over time with regular wear (can be closed with pliers)
❌ Not Normal: Jump rings snapping or breaking into pieces (contact us - this is covered under warranty)
✅ Normal: Charms coming off if jewellery is snagged or pulled
❌ Not Normal: Charms falling off during gentle, normal wear with closed jump rings (contact us - this may be a setting issue)
What to Expect Over Time
18k PVD Plated Gold Pieces
Our 18k PVD plated gold pieces are designed to last, but like all plated jewellery, the gold layer may naturally fade with wear over time. How long this takes depends on your skin chemistry, how often you wear the piece, and daily activities. With proper care, you can extend the life of the plating significantly.
Signs of Normal Wear
- Gradual fading of gold colour, especially on areas that get the most contact (like bracelet clasps)
- More noticeable wear if you have naturally acidic skin or use lotions frequently
Troubleshooting
If Your Piece Looks Dull
Try the weekly deep clean method above. Built-up soap, lotion, or natural oils can create a film that regular rinsing removes.
If 18k PVD Plated Gold is Fading
This is normal wear over time. To slow the process:
- Remove before applying lotions or perfumes
- Clean gently and dry thoroughly after exposure to sweat or chlorine
- Store separately to prevent scratching
Remember, fading doesn't affect the durability or hypoallergenic properties of your piece - the stainless steel base underneath is just as strong and skin-safe.
If You Have Skin Irritation
Our pieces are hypoallergenic, but if you experience irritation:
- Clean the piece thoroughly
- Let your skin rest for a day or two
- Contact us if the issue persists
